Trusting my intuition has been a core part of my life, even to the point where my friends and family think I’m a little bit … odd. Moving to Scotland was one of those moments when I just had this deep feeling that it was where I was meant to be, and it turned out to be exactly right. Years later, when it was time to move to Adelaide, that same inner nudge told me it was the right move, even though it was a huge change and many of my friends once again questioned my sanity. Looking back, I’m so glad I listened to my intuition, because each step brought me closer to the life I’m living now.

It’s not just the big life changes where intuition has shown up for me. It has also been there in the most important relationships. When I met my partner, my intuition screamed at me, despite my initial impression, that – Yes! Don’t let him get away! Message him! Don’t let him get away! And, I followed that feeling, and now I’m in the happiest, most supportive relationship I’ve ever been in. It wasn’t about overthinking or second-guessing – it was just listening to that inner voice that said, “This feels right.”

In this ritual, I’ll guide you through some simple steps to help you strengthen your own intuition. Whether you’re facing a big decision or just want to feel more connected to your inner knowing, these practices are here to support you. Trusting yourself can open up so much, and I can’t wait for you to experience that.

A Ritual for Deepening Your Intuition.

Preparing Your Sacred Space.

Before beginning any ritual, it’s important to create a space where you feel grounded and focused. You don’t need anything elaborate – a small corner of a room, your bedside table, or even your kitchen can serve as your ritual space. What matters most is that it feels comfortable and sacred to you.

Cleanse the Space.

To start, take a few moments to cleanse the space. This could be with smoke from incense, a candle flame, saining, or even a few drops of essential oil in water that you can spritz around. The key here is to clear any lingering energy that could distract or interfere with your ritual. As you cleanse, set the intention that this space is for connecting with your deeper self, free from outside noise and distractions.

Gather Your Tools

For this ritual, you don’t need anything special, however, some items you might want to consider:

  • A candle (preferably white or purple for clarity and spiritual connection)
  • A journal and pen
  • A piece of clear quartz or amethyst (known for enhancing intuition)
  • A small bowl of water or a dish of salt (for grounding)

Arrange these tools in a way that feels right to you. Trust your instincts – this is your space, and you’ll know what feels best.

Grounding and Centering.

Before diving into any intuitive work, it’s important to ground and centre yourself. This step helps you feel connected to the earth and present in your body, allowing you to focus on the task at hand.

Grounding Technique.

Sit or stand comfortably, with your feet firmly on the ground. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Imagine roots growing from the soles of your feet, extending deep into the earth. Visualise these roots anchoring you, drawing up the earth’s steady, grounding energy.

Spend a few moments here, feeling connected and supported. This grounding process helps you remain present during the ritual, ensuring you don’t get lost in the clouds while connecting with your intuition.

Centring Breathwork.

Once you feel grounded, move into centring breathwork. With each inhale, focus on drawing in calm, balanced energy. With each exhale, release any tension or scattered thoughts. Picture your energy gathering in your core, becoming steady and strong like the centre of a spinning wheel. After a few minutes, you should feel calm, clear, and ready to begin.

The Candle Meditation.

Candle meditation is a simple yet powerful practice to help you access your intuition. The flickering flame can serve as a visual anchor, helping you tune into your inner wisdom.

Lighting the Candle.

Light your candle and place it in front of you. As the flame flickers, focus your gaze softly on it. Take a few deep breaths, allowing the steady movement of the flame to capture your attention.

With each inhale, invite clarity and focus. With each exhale, let go of any distractions or doubts. Allow your mind to settle as you stare into the flame, letting its warmth and light guide your awareness inward.

Ask for Guidance.

When you feel ready, silently or out loud, ask for guidance. You might say something like, “I am open to receiving insight and clarity.” You don’t need to overthink this step – simply ask for what you need in the moment, whether it’s insight into a particular situation or a deeper connection with your intuition.

Spend a few moments in silence, focusing on the flame. Notice any thoughts, feelings, or sensations that arise. These could be subtle nudges from your intuition, offering you guidance in the moment.

Journaling to Access Intuition.

Journaling is a powerful way to tap into your intuition. Writing freely allows your subconscious mind to come forward, often revealing insights that you weren’t consciously aware of.

Stream of Consciousness Writing.

After spending time with the candle meditation, pick up your journal and pen. Without overthinking it, start writing whatever comes to mind. This is called stream-of-consciousness writing. Don’t worry about grammar or structure – just let the words flow.

You might start with, “Right now, I feel…” and see where it takes you. Often, when we allow ourselves to write without judgement, our intuition slips through the cracks, offering us the guidance we need. Write for as long as feels right – there’s no rush.

Reflect on Your Writing.

Once you’ve finished, take a moment to read back what you’ve written. Look for any patterns, repeated themes, or feelings that stand out. These can be clues from your intuition, gently pointing you in the right direction.

If you notice something that surprises you, trust that it’s important. Your intuition often speaks in subtle ways, and paying attention to these small details can reveal deeper insights.

Working with Crystals for Intuition.

Crystals can be a wonderful addition to any ritual, and there are certain stones known for enhancing intuition.

Choosing a Crystal.

For this ritual, you might want to work with clear quartz or amethyst. Clear quartz is known as a master healer and amplifier, helping to clear away mental fog and open your mind to higher wisdom. Amethyst is often associated with spiritual awareness and is said to enhance intuitive abilities.

If you don’t have these particular crystals, don’t worry. Use what you have, or trust your instinct when choosing one. Remember, your intention is more important than the specific crystal.

Using Your Crystal.

Hold your crystal in your hand during the candle meditation or while journaling. As you do, focus on the energy of the stone. Visualise it helping you connect with your intuition, clearing away any mental clutter, and allowing you to see things more clearly.

After the ritual, you might want to carry the crystal with you as a reminder of the insights you’ve gained.

Connecting with Water for Clarity.

Water is often associated with intuition, clarity, and emotional understanding. Including an element of water in your ritual can help you tap into these qualities.

A Simple Water Meditation.

If you’ve chosen to include a bowl of water in your ritual, take a moment to sit quietly with it. Gaze into the water’s surface, allowing your mind to settle. Water has a way of reflecting back what we need to see, so take a moment to ask for clarity.

You can say something like, “Show me what I need to know.” Then, close your eyes and focus on the sensations in your body, or any thoughts or images that arise. These might be messages from your intuition, offering you guidance.

Drinking the Water.

When you’re ready, you might choose to drink the water as a symbolic act of internalising the clarity you’ve gained. Sip slowly, imagining the water bringing clarity and insight into every part of your being.

Trusting Your Intuition.

One of the most important parts of these rituals is learning to trust what comes up. Intuition often speaks in subtle ways, and it can be easy to second-guess yourself. But with practice, you’ll begin to notice that those small nudges are often leading you in the right direction.

Listening to Your Inner Voice.

Throughout the day, pay attention to those small feelings or thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere. These are often your intuition trying to get your attention. Whether it’s a gut feeling about a decision, a sudden flash of insight, or a quiet inner knowing, trust that these messages are worth listening to.

The more you tune into your intuition, the stronger it becomes. It’s like a muscle – the more you use it, the more reliable it will be.

Integrating Intuition into Everyday Life

After completing your ritual, try to integrate your intuition into your daily life. Set aside time each day, even if it’s just five minutes, to tune in and listen. You might find that your intuition guides you in ways you never expected, offering clarity and insight when you need it most.

As you continue this practice, you’ll likely find that your intuition becomes a reliable source of guidance, helping you navigate life with more ease and confidence.

Final Thoughts.

As you keep practising and tuning into your intuition, just remember it’s all about learning to trust yourself. There will be times when doubt sneaks in, and that’s completely normal. But the more you connect with that inner voice, the easier it gets to recognise and follow it. It’s not about having all the answers or getting everything right, but about slowly building a stronger relationship with your intuition, little by little.

When I look back at the moments when I trusted my gut, it’s led me to some of the most amazing experiences – like moving countries and meeting my partner. Even when things felt uncertain, listening to my intuition made all the difference. And I want the same for you! I want you to feel confident that you can trust yourself, even when things feel up in the air.

As you try these rituals, take it easy on yourself and be patient. Your intuition is always there, and these practices will help you strengthen that connection. It’s a journey, but with each step, you’ll find more clarity and trust in yourself. Just take your time, listen, and know that your intuition is ready to guide you whenever you need it.
