One Ritual, Three Intentions, Everything You Need
Beltane is traditionally a festival of love, passion, and new beginnings, and if you’re looking for a single ritual that lets you work with all three of those energies at once, this is it. This ritual is deliberately simple because simplicity is where power lives. You don’t need special tools or elaborate preparation or hours of your time. What you need is presence, intention, and access to fire. Whether that’s a garden bonfire, a candle, or even a lighter and a safe space to burn something, this ritual will help you step into Beltane’s energy and use it to call in love, to ignite your passion, and to mark the beginning of something new. So let’s walk through it together.
What You’ll Need
Before you start, gather a few simple things. You’ll need some kind of fire, whether that’s a bonfire, a fire pit, a candle, or even a small flame in a bowl. You’ll need paper and a pen. You’ll need something to represent love and new beginnings in your home, whether that’s flowers, a red candle, or something more personal. You’ll need about thirty to forty minutes of uninterrupted time. That’s genuinely all you need. No crystals, no herbs, no special tools. Just you, fire, and intention.
Preparing Yourself
Find Your Space
Choose a space where you can be undisturbed for the duration of the ritual. If you have access to the outdoors and a safe place to build or have a fire, that’s ideal. If not, indoors with a candle works beautifully. The space just needs to feel a bit sacred to you, a place where you can drop into intention and presence.
Clear and Centre
Before you begin, take a few minutes to settle yourself. Take some deep breaths. If you like, splash cold water on your face or hold your hands under running water to ground yourself. Light your fire or your candle. Speak an intention aloud: I am opening myself to love, passion, and new beginnings. I step into Beltane’s power with an open heart. Say whatever feels right for you. The point is to consciously shift from your regular day into a more intentional space.
The Ritual Itself
Part One: Speaking Your Love Intention
Sit comfortably in front of your fire or candle. Think about love. Not just romantic love, though that’s valid. But love in all its forms. Love for yourself. Love for people in your life. Love that you want to experience. Love that you want to give. Love that you want to receive.
Take your paper and pen. Write down what love means to you right now. What kind of love are you calling in? Be specific. Don’t write “I want love.” Write “I want a partnership where I feel seen and valued” or “I want to love myself with the same gentleness I show others” or “I want my relationships to deepen and grow.” Write until you feel like you’ve captured something true. This doesn’t have to be perfect or eloquent. It just has to be honest.
Read what you’ve written aloud. Speak it to the fire. Speak it to yourself. Speak it to the universe. Let the words land. Feel them in your body. Then fold the paper, keeping it safely away from the flames for now.
Part Two: Invoking Your Passion
Now think about passion. What excites you? What makes you feel alive? What do you want to do more of? What lights you up? Passion isn’t just about romantic or sexual passion, though it can be. It’s about the things that make you feel genuinely alive.
Take another piece of paper. Write about your passion. What are you passionate about? What do you want to bring more of into your life? What do you want to pursue or explore or commit to? Write freely. Don’t censor yourself. This is about claiming what genuinely matters to you.
Read this aloud as well. Speak your passion into the fire. Feel the energy of it. Notice how it feels in your body when you speak it aloud. Then fold this paper as well.
Part Three: Claiming Your New Beginning
Finally, think about new beginnings. What is trying to begin in your life? What season or chapter or phase are you moving into? What do you want to leave behind? What do you want to welcome in?
Write about your new beginning. Be as specific as you can. You might write about a new relationship, a new job, a new creative project, a new phase of personal growth, a new relationship with yourself. Write what wants to be written. Don’t overthink it.
Read this aloud. Speak your new beginning into the fire. Claim it. Say it like you already know it’s coming, because in a way, you do. You’re speaking it into reality.
Part Four: The Release
Now comes the powerful part. You’re going to release these intentions into the universe through fire. One by one, take each paper and carefully feed it into the flames. As you do, speak a simple release. You might say “I release my love intention to the universe.” Or simply “For love” or “So it is” or whatever feels right.
Watch the papers burn. Watch the flames take your words and transform them into smoke and energy. Feel the release. You’re not holding onto these intentions with anxiety or desperation. You’re giving them to the fire, to the season, to the universe, with trust and with an open hand.
Stay with the fire for a few minutes after all the papers have burned. Let the energy settle. Breathe. Feel what’s shifted inside you.
Anchoring the Work
Create a Physical Anchor
After you’ve released your intentions to the fire, create something physical that anchors the ritual. Light a red candle in your home and keep it burning through Beltane, or for as long as feels right. Arrange flowers in a vase as a symbol of love and new beginnings. Write your three intentions on a piece of paper and keep it somewhere you’ll see it regularly. Do something tangible that reminds you of what you’ve set in motion.
Journal About What Comes
In the days and weeks following Beltane, pay attention to what shows up. Not just the big dramatic things, but the small synchronicities and unexpected opportunities. Journal about them. Notice where your passion is leading you. Notice where love is showing up. Notice what’s beginning. The ritual doesn’t end when you leave the fire. It continues as you pay attention to how the universe responds.
Remember!
- Gather simple materials: Fire, paper, pen, and about thirty to forty minutes are all you need.
- Centre yourself before beginning: Ground yourself and speak an opening intention to shift into ritual space.
- Write three separate intentions: Love, passion, and new beginnings deserve their own papers and their own speaking.
- Be specific, not vague: “I want a partnership where I feel valued” is more powerful than “I want love.”
- Speak aloud: Your voice carries power. Hearing your own words changes everything.
- Release to the fire with intention: Feed each paper to the flames and say a simple release with presence.
- Watch the transformation: Stay with the fire and feel the energy as your words become smoke and energy.
- Create a physical anchor: Light a candle, arrange flowers, or keep your written intentions somewhere visible.
- Pay attention in the days that follow: Notice synchronicities, opportunities, and unexpected ways your intentions begin to move.
- Trust the process: You don’t need to see immediate results to trust that the work is real and it’s working.
Final Thoughts
What I love most about this ritual is its simplicity and its power. You’re not doing anything complicated. You’re just speaking your truth to fire and releasing it. And yet, something genuinely shifts when you do that. When you name something aloud and offer it to the flames, your nervous system hears it. The universe hears it. Something in you knows that you’re serious about what you want.
Beltane is the moment in the year when everything is possible. The earth is fertile, the energy is alive and moving, and the veil is thin. This ritual lets you step into that energy and use it. You’re not asking the universe to do something for you. You’re partnering with the season’s own power to manifest what you genuinely want. That’s the real magic of Beltane.
So light your fire. Speak your truth. Release your intentions. And then watch what the universe brings. You might be surprised at how quickly things begin to move toward you. But you won’t be surprised if you’ve actually done the work of speaking your desires aloud and trusting them to the fire. That clarity and that commitment are what create magic.
